Description
Caramelizing onions is an easy technique to develop deep, sweet umami flavors to accent any savory dish. The trick to perfectly caramelized onions? Time and a low temperature.

- 5 onions
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar

Directions
- Slice onions in half then slice into thin strips.
- In a large skillet, heat butter over medium heat until melted.
- Add onions to the pan and fold over each other to coat all onions in butter. Add salt and cook down for 15-20 minutes.
- Reduce heat to low, add balsamic vinegar and sugar and cook an additional 8-10 minutes, until onions are dark and sticky. Serve.

keeping the heat low and being patient was the key. also, started with a lid on pan all the way until the last 10 minutes.
