- 250 grams chana dal (yellow dried split peas, rinsed until the water runs clear)
- 3 Tbsp. vegetable oil
- 1 Tbsp. cumin seeds
- 1 small onion (chopped)
- 4 whole green chillies (pricked with a knife)
- 2 cms fresh ginger (/¾in piece, peeled and cut into thin strips)
- 3 garlic cloves (peeled and left whole)
- 3 tomatoes
- 3/4 tsp. ground turmeric
- 3/4 tsp. Garam Masala
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground coriander
- salt
- freshly ground black pepper
- coriander leaves (handful chopped fresh)

It was very delicious. I used canned tomatoes instead of fresh but it was very tasty and fairly easy to make. However I now know what"prick the chilli" means. My fingers are still burning. LOL
