    Ok, to be honest I’m a little frustrated after reading the comments on the recipes page. It did not say to drain anything, so not only did I leave the bacon grease in but I also left the liquid from browning the meat. Second, nowhere does it say to use Worcestershire sauce. It says Soy so that’s what I used, only to find out from the chef in the comments that they use Worcestershire. I’m pretty certain I ruined it but it’s cooking now, and after over an hour of prep, I definitely hope I didn’t. I kindly suggest updating the recipe.

    Cooking right now. I did some modifications. Instead of soy sauce I used coconut aminos, and instead of flour I did use gluten free flour to make the recipe gluten free. Gluten free flour clumps up pretty bad so I took the sauce and slowly poured it together then I took it into the blender and slowly added the flour. I did this fairly quickly so it didn’t lose to much heat and then I threw it back into the pan till it simmered while wisking. I also cooked the chuck in the bacon fat. Big win. I also added a bit of stock and wine in when it was all done. Didn’t measure veggies just tossed them in as I saw fit. This will be a member of the clean plate club. Might put over chick pea macaroni

    This was a huge hit for our family of four. The only change I made was I didn’t add the tricolour potatoes. I decided to put this stew on top of mashed potatoes instead. This was such a wonderful and delicious comfort meal.

    I added a few extra seasonings (paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper) while cooking the meat, and they went a long way. The was a little involved for a slow cooker recipe, but I did like the result. Won’t rush to make it again, but I’ll revisit.

    Great recipe. Made it according to the instructions and everyone loved it. Thickened the sauce a little at the end with a tablespoon of cornstarch.

    Very yummy! Followed the recipe exactly and it turned out to be one of the best stews I have ever made. Everyone ate it up and my son-in-law texted me after they got home to tell me how great dinner was. Doesn’t get better than that! A keeper for sure.

    I used beef broth instead of chicken broth, otherwise no substitutions and it was delicious!

    My boyfriend and I love this meal. I've made it a few times now. Not sure what Darla is talking about a few comments down ... it's definitely not too salty. I use low sodium chicken broth, low sodium soy sauce, and low sodium bacon though. Healthy and delicious.

    It was perfect! Didn’t need all the additions and modifications people are stating! Season it to taste and follow the recipe and you’re good!

    Not bad, but the “Pioneer Woman” definitely has a tastier recipe, Much less work and better flavor. Soy sauce makes this beef stew too salty. I would eliminate that and substitute Worcestershire sauce. Maybe a little rosemary, as well. Added a few red pepper flakes and a couple bay leaves. Not a keeper for me. )-;

    I did like Karyne did and substituted soy sauce for the amino sauce. I also substituted baby potatoes for the parsnips and tomato sauce for the tomato paste. It came out perfect with the substitutions.
