Great drink that has been around a long, long time. I use regular Angostura bitters and a good sized orange peel twisted to release the orange oil. Rye or Irish whisky work just fine. For sugar I used 3/4 oz simple syrup. Sweeten to taste. I use a Tbs of water rather than soda. Either would be great. Sort of a Mint Julep without the mint. Easy on the bitters it can really overpower the drink.
