Description
Biting into this Italian smoked sausage sandwich will remind one of their grandma’s Italian recipes from the old country with it sweet and tangy marinara sauce, creamy mozzarella cheese on a crusty Italian roll. But the truth is that this Italian sub with smoked sausage is decidedly an American invention — though it would be a good guess to say it mostly emerged from Italian-American kitchens…
You may have sampled your first smoked sausage sandwich at a street fair or constructed from behind a tall counter at the corner Italian deli. Maybe you were enticed by the neon “Italian Sausage” sign beaming from the local butcher shop window — like Satriale's Pork Store on HBO’s The Sopranos. But one thing is certain, when it comes to the smoked sausage sandwiches, once you get your hands on one of these delicious Italian subs, you’ll never forget it.
Now you don’t have to wait for street fair season to start. You can easily make your own Italian smoked sausage sandwich right in your own kitchen. Our recipe uses Hillshire Farm® smoked sausage links, but there are lots of Hillshire Farm® sausage varieties use can use on your sandwich, like Hillshire Farm® Beef Polska Kielbasa and Cajun-Style Andouille.
