Easy and tasty. Mine was slightly undercooked toward the center. It wasn't quite done at the 45 minute mark, so I basted it and gave it 5 more minutes. I probably should have done the following:
1. Skip that final baste.
2. Not had it in such a ball, i.e. make it flatter.
3. Cut the X deeper allowing more heat into the center.

It was good, just a little salty.

I loved it. For the flour I substituted 2 cups of white whole wheat flour and 2 cups of bread flour for the white flour. It tasted great.
I would recommend because it tasted wonderful and was easy to make.

The soda bread was easy and delicious. I ate it with butter on it and a cup a tea. I did add 1 1/2 cups raisins too sweeten it up. Recipe is similar to my Irish Grandma's bread , minus the egg.

Everyone liked it, easy to make. I felt it needed more structure, like oats.

very easy to make although I found it a little sweet. I'd use less sugar next time.

So easy and tastes like a big biscuit!

You should add at least one cup of rasins to the mix. You want to boil some water and add the rasins. Cook for about 5min. And add to the mix.

Super easy to make! Added more butter then called for but just added extra flavor. Definitely would make again!

Great recipe. Quick and easy. Dough is lumpy but that is okay. The bread cooks up lumpy too but it has an amazing buttery flavor. Cooked mine without raisins and served with an organic jam. Delish!

Love, love this recipe! It is quick and easy and delicious. I, too, had leftover buttermilk so am making another loaf for the base of strawberry shortcake. My 2 sons and their wives loved it as I split the first loaf amongst us.
My DIL suggested it for the biscuit part of the shortcake. I think I have enough buttermilk for a third loaf...will probably do. Very scone-like. If I could get hold of some clotted cream it would be great, too.

I had never tasted soda bread before so I had no idea what to expect. I did research and compared other sites ingredients and all where very similar some with raisins some with caraway but basically the same. Easy recipe to follow, not much to it. I reminded me very much of a scone. I did add raisins but not caraway. I brought some to work and shared it with my business partner who is Irish. He thought is was very good. He did said typical soda bread is more crumbly, mine was a tiny bit cakey. If I had cooked it for a couple of minutes longer I believe it would have been just that as the outer edges where crumbly. He gave it a 4.5.

I made this recipe today. I think this Irish Soda bread is delicious!!!
The only change I made was to add 1 cup of raisins. It is a keeper!

Irish soda bread does not have baking powder or eggs. The leavening is the baking soda interacting with the buttermilk. Butter should be softened, not melted and crumbled into the dry ingredients. Sugar should not be more thAn a tablespoon. The baking powder will leave a metallic taste in the bread.
