- cornstarch
- 3 Tbsp. neutral oil
- 4 Tbsp. butter
- 12 shallots (12 ounces in total, thinly sliced)
- 4 red chiles (fresh, thinly sliced, or less to taste)
- 12 cloves garlic (roughly chopped)
- 3 Tbsp. fresh ginger (chopped)
- 3 Tbsp. sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 3 Tbsp. light soy sauce
- 4 Tbsp. dark soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. black peppercorns (coarsely crushed, use a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder)
- 16 green onions (small and thin, sliced or shredded)
- cooked white rice (for serving)

Fabulous. Substituted 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes for chile and added 1/2 lb green beans with the shallots.

One of my go to tofu dishes - I don’t feel the need to add all the pepper but go for it!

Nope. Added courgette and mushrooms to make it a meal and served on freekeh. It was very disappointing, will nit make again

Great, used tapioca flower instead of corn starch
