Pescetarian Recipes | Yummly

A pescatarian is a term for someone who does not eat meat but does like eating fish, mollusks, and shellfish. It’s not uncommon for someone who identifies as a pescatarian to also take on the label of vegetarian, meaning that the only other animal products they eat are those made from dairy – like cheese, milk, and yogurt. m their food rather than from supplements. On the other hand, some people work toward eating an entirely vegetarian diet by first switching to a pescatarian diet. And then others intentionally avoid meat products because of unhealthy farming practices but eat certain types of fish that are caught in the wild or those from sustainable sources.

Mollusks

There is a large variety of mollusks available at seafood counters at grocery stores. A concise list includes mussels, clams, oysters, scallops, squid, and octopus. Some great shellfish recipes include pasta dishes, salads, soup recipes, sushi, fried, or eaten directly out of the shell. Oysters are notoriously delicious when freshly shucked. Oysters Rockefeller is cooked and eaten from the half shell. To make this decadent recipe at home, you need garlic, butter, onion, breadcrumbs, milk, cheese, salt, and pepper. You can cook the oysters in water or a mixture of beer and water. When making a pasta dish, you have your pick of shellfish to top it off. Clams, scallops, and mussels are the perfect companion for lemon pasta. Ingredients for this dish include olive oil, garlic, white wine, butter, and lemon zest. For a little bit of heat (or a lot of heat), top with crushed red pepper flakes. Choose any pasta you’re in the mood for, like linguine, angel hair, or plain old spaghetti. Then top the finished dish off with parsley and freshly carted Parmesan cheese. For anyone who likes spicy foods, mollusk recipes are definitely for you.

Crustaceans

In the sea, there are hundreds of types of crustaceans, which include shrimp, crab, lobster, and crawfish And then each of these is available in different varieties. There’s the black tiger shrimp, an Asian shrimp available year round. Chinese white shrimp are also from Asia and are harvested from farming ponds. There’s the king crab, one of the most popular crabs harvested in the U.S., and the spanner, an upscale crustacean from Australia. The snow crab is also from North America. And if you eat shrimp in the Americas, there’s a very good chance that it’s the pink shrimp variety or the gulf shrimp found off of the southeastern U.S. shores. If you’re looking for a seafood recipe to keep you warm in the winter, consider a casserole. Here are the ingredients you need for a crab and green bean casserole: cream of mushroom soup condensed, milk, soy sauce, green beans, onions, lemon juice, butter, vegetable oil, and lump crab meat. First, you combine most of the ingredients and then bake it in the oven for 25 minutes. The entire cook time is 40 minutes or just 15 minutes of prep. Or here’s one that will keep you toasty and your picky eaters will probably love it, too. To make lobster mac and cheese, you need butter, red onion, garlic, flour, milk, cheddar, macaroni (or fusilli if you’re feeling fancy), breadcrumbs, and cooked lobster meat. You simply cook the pasta on one burner, then combine and thicken the cheesy sauce on another. For the final step, combine the sauce and pasta and add lobster, then top with seasoned breadcrumbs and bake until golden brown and crispy on top.

Seafood

This category includes your salmon, ahi tuna, bass, halibut, trout, grouper, and more. And if this is the type of seafood you’re into, then you have to have an easy fish recipe on hand, like fish tacos. Use a firm white fish, like snapper, catfish, tilapia, or mahi-mahi and corn or flour tortillas. Then add any ingredients your heart desires. Some of the add-ons we like are cabbage, salsa, guacamole (or just plain avocado). Most of the fish we mention here make a terrific main course pan-seared fillet, especially when served with a homemade yogurt sauce, or garlicky brown butter with pecans. The later couldn’t be simpler. The ingredients list includes flour for dredging the fillets, unsalted butter, pecans sliced, and a lemon. This is a great dish for trout. And cook time, including prep, is just 15 minutes.
